The numbers do not lie: Family Medicine is not...
Match results of my medical school graduating class this year: 10 graduates matched into Family Medicine - I’m here. Now contrast that with some of the following: 9 matched into Anesthesiology - Do we need more Anesthesiologists or Family Doctors?  Do we need an almost 1:1 ratio of Anesthesiologists to Family Doctors? 13 matched into General Surgery - Why are we training more Surgeons...

Doctor fired over 'America Dies on Dunkin' sign →
A county commissioner who owns a doughnut shop and two lawyers who own a new Dunkin’ Donuts managed to get the doctor fired. “I think he was somewhat of a zealot,” Thomas (County Commissioner) says. “I don’t have a problem with him pushing an agenda, it’s the way he did it. People borrowed money to go into business and they are being attacked by the...

High Speed Rail
The American dependency on automobiles is made worse by the inadequate North American rail system. I’m currently on an Amtrak passenger train and it’s the slowest train I have ever been on. The Northeast needs some serious railway investment so that cities will not have to be connected by only cars and trucks. Imagine a typical 250 mph bullet train connecting the major cities of the...

It's better to be unprepared
With student loan repayment programs of up to $150k over 5 years in New York state, you are better off borrowing a ridiculously large sum of money. Scrapping together money to pay for education so that you don’t go into debt leaves you worse off.

iPhone? More like iPlay + iComputer
I’ve taken less than a dozen calls on the iPhone since I purchased it last week.  However, I have over three dozen applications and a dozen games. The medical applications are still a little light, but 3g internet access partially negates that negative. I’m still waiting for a iPhone specific UpToDate and Dynamed.

'Pro-Life' Drugstores Market Beliefs -... →
As a professional, your personal religious beliefs do not matter. Your primary duty is to the health of your patient. In addition, your patient’s beliefs trump your own. Why is this only an issue in the States? What is the pre-occupation with pushing personal beliefs upon others? This is also particularly alarming since pharmacists and doctors are in a position of power. In rural areas,...

Why are we using border police as copyright protection officers?  Since when was ripping a CD illegal?  What happened to fair use?  Does this mean everyone has to walk around with fully on the fly encrypted hard drives now because they don’t want officers snooping around?  Ridiculous.

Increase medical school class attendance by 50%...
On the last day of school, the students decided to buy ourselves lunch with left over money from a class account.  We spent $150 on preppy bagels with fancy cream cheeses.  There was a 50% increase in attendance for a 08:00 lecture; from 40 to 60 people in a class of 125.  It takes a lot to bring us out.

I totally agree. “Freebies” from drug and service companies work. After a conference where I scooped up some sticky pads last year, I went and looked up the drugs that were being advertised when I got bored of studying. By the way, a big trial came out a few weeks ago on the drug, it’s no better than its predecessors.

There are a few problems that need to be addressed with rating sites. What and who takes care of forum trolls? How do you deal with the small number of patients that might have psyc issues?
